Created with Bergdorf Goodman for its 125th anniversary, this limited edition series imagines what happens after the doors are locked and everyone sensible has gone home.
Given rare access to Bergdorf’s after hours and its remarkable archive of props, Mele creates a world where old New York glamour meets his particular sense of humor. The fantasy soon spills outside, onto Fifth Avenue, through Central Park and into J.G. Melon. Guards fall asleep. Jewels disappear. A giraffe finds its way into a taxi.
Elegant, eccentric and theatrical, familiar New York becomes Mele’s stage. Fashion becomes costume, the city becomes a set, and Bergdorf Goodman is the beginning of a fantasy where almost anything feels possible.
Printed on archival Canson Baryta fibre rag paper with a satin finish and archival pigment inks. Signed and numbered, each piece is framed in white wood with museum grade 99% UV Plexi.
